Celebrating Grandma Hart's 90th Birthday

The weekend of March 16 -19 we went to LasVegas and met Grandma Hart while she was staying with Shirl and El Dora in their time share there. We were able to get a room in the same place. It was so great to be there with family without a 12 hour drive. I love the colors on the flowers on the table. Now I just need to take pictures that are not fuzzy. It was a great room.

Sunday we went to the buffet at Caesar's palace. We spent the rest of the day visiting with family. El Dora cooking us a wonderful dinner with veggies and rice. Yum!

Monday we went to the Venetian. What an incredible place. That is where the indoor pictures were taken. This is the group of us. We walked along the Grand Canal, had lunch at an Italian place along with gelato, saw amazing photos and the Lik gallery. I also got to pick out an early Anniversary/Mother's day necklace.

Looking down the great Canal. It is all inside the building.

Watching this statue was fun and interesting. It is a man all dressed in white with gloves on. It you stand there, you will see him move. When Grandma got up close, he waved, slightly, at her to show he was a real person. I'm not sure anyone but us saw him move. He was still very much in character. It ws fun to watch.

I loved the patterns on the floors as we walked around.

We had to be out of our room by 10 am Tuesday. There was a little hiccup in the door as we were loading our stuff in the Jeep. The Security guy just happened to be driving by as we needed him and got us back in so we were still out on time. After we said goodbye to the family. Jeff and I drove out to the other side of town to the Red Rocks Canyon. It is a BLM site. It was a perfect day, not too hot and a cool breeze. It is a very rocky place. We went on a 4wheel drive trail for a ways and then headed home. It was 4 hours door to door. It sure beats 12 hours.

It was a great trip! So glad that we could meet up and spend time with Grandma, Shirl and El Dora. I am sure that Grandma would appreciate notes, cards and calls on her real birthday. Love you Grandma!

Paiute Trail Adventure

I know this post is out of order. It should go right after the one where there are bottles of apples sitting on the cupboard. Some how I downloaded the pictures and then forgot to make the blog. I was going to clean out my downloads this morning and found them. so here goes.

When we were in Utah for Labor day, we stopped at the Purple Turtle to see Steven. He invited us to come up to the Paiute Trail camp they were going on. He said there were cabins. The whole family was going to be there. He and his family were taking their trailer. Amy's family was renting a cottage that was there. Gloria and her family were coming too. Sounded like a family reunion to me. Jeff was about to take 2 days off, so we went for the major part of the week. October 11-14.

We left home on October 11, 2012. It was a longer drive than we thought. We called ahead the they taped our key to the cabin on the door of the office. took a bit to find but we did.
rained most of the day Friday. not in the afternoon. rode with Steven. Beautiful day Saturday. We all ate together. We  took most of the fruit. So Cal does that well.

It was raining the first morning we were there. I gathered all the children and did some "Bees" finger play and Jumbo Elephant song. We also read a few stories. It was great.

Our cabin The white you can see is just canvas covering the boards that are inside.
Inside
The only heat vent
It was quite cold at night at least for me. It was about 35 to 38 degrees over night. If I slept in the line of the heat vent I was able to stay warm enough to sleep with a sleeping bag unzipped covering the quilts that were on the bed.
Entry and the table
This picture was taken very early in the morning showing the cracks between the boards. The only thing between us and the outside were those boards and the canvas on the outside

It was a GREAT trip! Such good times! We would love to do it again.

All Sewed Up

This is where I am now on the quilt. I have put it on hold for a bit to do a couple of birthday projects for Scott and Johanna. I will do blogs on those later so as not to ruin the surprise.
